Announcing the Newest Additions to CloudShare's Pre-Configured Virtual Machine Environment Templates!

Today’s post was written by Juan Carlos González , SharePoint MVP and CloudShare Guest Blogger.

Those of you who know me, know that I have being using CloudShare's virtual machine pre-configured environments since 2010 (if I remember correctly). The preconfigured VM templates have helped me to easily and quickly set up all of my lab and demo environments around the latest Microsoft products and technologies such as SharePoint (my passion), SQL Server or Visual Studio.

"How I Saved $10K by transforming my home lab into a Cloud Environment" - August's User of the Month

John Calvert has 18 years of experience designing IT systems and software for leading enterprises and government agencies, from Nortel to the National Resource Council and Department of Justice of Canada. He is currently the lead architect for the Sharepoint system at the Canadian House of Commons.

John is also passionate about speaking, teaching and training the Toronto IT community.  His talks are often based on real-world deployments and common errors in the wild, but bringing complex enterprise systems out to his talks required more hardware and hassle than he could manage.

Using CloudShare, he built lab environments that meeting attendees could not just see, but join, share, and rebuild!  John previously shared his CloudShare experience in a detailed post in his personal blog, View his post here.

Let’s raise a toast for John Calvert - August’s user of the month!

SharePoint's Hybrid Future

Today on the Office Blog, Julia White wrote that SharePoint 2016 on-premise is scheduled for a summer 2015 reveal date. For Microsoft observers and partners, this is an important affirmation, but hardly surprising news.

[Tip]: Can I use Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition to develop for SharePoint and Office 365?

Well, this was the question I made myself when I was creating a new virtual machine template for CloudShare’s pre-configured environment templates. Basically, by default Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition doesn’t come with the Visual Studio 2013 Tools for Office installed…but of course, you can install them in your SharePoint & Office 365 development environment.
